As a solo mom, I’m all about ease, safety, and comfort — and I found it all at Comfort Suites by Choice Hotels. This award-winning hotel has waterfront views that made every morning feel like a moment of peace. Plus, the rooms are spotless, breakfast is included, and there’s an indoor pool for winding down.

Best Things to Do in Chincoteague with Kids
If you want to enjoy Chincoteague with your kids and still feel like you got a break — here’s how to do it right.
1. Relax on the unspoiled beach
A short 10-minute drive from Downtown Chincoteague takes you to Toms Cove on Assateague. This is one of the most unspoiled beaches I’ve ever seen. Bonus tip: go for sunrise. It’s breathtaking

2. Take a Boat Tour to See Wild Ponies
I highly recommend Chincoteague Boat Tours at Snug Harbor with Captain John. He’s been navigating these waters since he was 7, and his pontoon boat was both fast and comfortable. He took us to a remote island where we saw wild ponies and exotic birds. My kiddo loves the animals, I loved relaxing on the boat. Win-win.

3. Hike a Kid-Friendly Trail
What’s Chincoteague family travel without a nature trail? Plan at least a morning hike or evening stroll at Chiconteague National Wildlife Refuge. You can search for ponies, plenty of birds, and even the rare Delmarva silver squirrel! Check out these three must-do nature hikes and on the island.

- Wildlife Loop (3 Mile trail)
- Bivalve Trail
- Pony Observation Deck Trail
Pro Mom Tip: Pack binoculars so you can get a good view of the ponies from the Pony Observation Trail.

4. Visit the Incredible Assateague Lighthouse for views Over the Island
This red-and-white beauty can be seen from 20 miles at sea. You can climb it (with older kids) for a panoramic view — it’s a fun challenge and great memory.

5. Catch the Sunset at Queen’s Sound
More for you than the kids — but this quiet pier has the most calming sunset you’ll see on the island. Bring a towel, your camera, and just breathe.
6. Rent E-Bikes from Assateague Adventures
An E-Bike Tour can be perfect for younger kids who aren’t ready to pedal long distances. Assateague Adventures also offer guided kayak tours, which are safe and peaceful — especially if you’re new to kayaking or traveling solo with little ones..
7. Explore Downtown + the Library
Chincoteague’s downtown is small but full of charm. There’s a quaint library where kids can flip through books or play quietly while you recharge.

8. Wind Down at the Hotel Pool
Because no family vacation is complete without pool time. Comfort Suites has a warm indoor pool and hot tub — perfect for post-adventure relaxing
